As Claudius Templesmith in “The Hunger Games” would say—let the games begin!

Tonight marks the official beginning of the 2012 London Olympic games, with the much anticipated opening ceremony kicking off on NBC at 7:30 ET.

Constructed for roughly 80,000 people,  the London hosted and named “Olympic Stadium” is one of the most expensive buildings ever constructed, costing over $753 million. To compare, Beijing’s “Bird Nest” cost only $423 million to build.

However the money seems to be well spent as after this year’s Olympics, the stadium will once again be used for international competition during the 2012 Paralympics and again in 2017 with the World Championships in Athletics.

So what’s in store for the William Shakespeare “Tempest”-inspired opening ceremony, directed by ” Slumdog Millionaire” director Danny Boyle, entitled “Islses

The show will feature over 15,000 meters of staging… a million watt sound system…and nearly 13,000 props.

Over 4 billion viewers globally…are expected to tune in…so…no pressure if you happen to drop one of those props on camera, right?
