Zoe Saldana phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to chat about taking on a new, challenging role with Out of the Furnace and upcoming Avatar 2.
The actress tells us immediately after Thanksgiving, she usually hits up the the Christmas tree lot, but this year she’s taking a more relaxed approach. “I was hoping to buy my tree over the weekend, but then there was paddle tennis and a soccer game and then dinner at this restaurant … and I never went to see a tree to save my life.”
Aside from indulging in gluten-free pasta, the 35-year-old’s been busy working and being a newlywed.
Zoe’s latest project includes starring alongside Woody Harrelson and Christian Bale in the gritty drama Out of the Furnace, in which she plays Lena, a school teacher struggling for security in a town torn apart by war and the economy.
The stunner shares she took on the role because of the way the script made her feel. “The fact that when I read the script I was really moved by the story,” Zoe shares. ”Especially because it was about two brothers that were trying to keep their family together and survive a very bad recession and keep their town alive and when I read it, this role Lena, I really judged her. … I considered her actions really weak and that was very puzzling for me cause as a woman I always try to understand women and that was a side of myself that I wasn’t [aware of]..so I was very moved by her.”
As for when Zoe will reprise her role in Avatar 2 as Neytiri, the actress dishes they have yet to begin filming.
“That will happen next year and we are still waiting for them to give us the date because that means I’ll have to count back four months and start training.”
Now that’s dedication!
Until then, check out Zoe in Out Of the Furnace out in theaters Friday, December 6.
