Jordin Sparks hung out with Ryan during “On Air With Ryan Seacrest” on Friday to talk about how life has changed since she won season six of “American Idol.”
Since then she’s become a successful singer and actress. Jordin’s film “Sparkle” is in theaters now and she has another one in the works with Jennifer Hudson. In the interview she shares her favorite memories of Whitney Houston and how she’s made some dramatic changes in her life.
On Memories Of Working With Whitney Houston:
“Two of them stick out, well three of them stick out. One was a funny one where we were upstairs waiting for the camera to turn around and I put on my iPod, ‘Teach Me How To Dougie’ came on, and we all got up and started dancing and then Whitney walked up. We all kind of just paused for a second cause we didn’t know what she was going to say and then she was like, ‘Well what is that?’ And we were like, ‘Oh, that’s just this dance that people are doing.’ And she was like, ‘Ok, well I want to do it too,’ so she walked in with us and just started dancing. Like that’s how she was, she was so funny.”
“At the end of filming when I was doing the finale, she came to watch just to be supportive, like she just wanted to be there to watch. And I was done, I was wearing my dress and everything and she’s like, ‘Come here,’ and so I walk to the end of the stage, she walked up the stairs and she took my face in her hands and she held my face and looked me right in the eye, and was just like, ‘You are everything we wanted and more. You’re perfect.’”
“I never thought that I would have Whitney saying something like that to me, much less working with her, or even getting to talk to her for more than two seconds. To be able to have done that; she was an executive producer and then she was my costar, and then she became my friend. It’s just so crazy how all that happened, but it was everything I wanted and more. The movie and just being able to get to know somebody that I looked up to, you know?”
The ‘Sparkle’ Premiere:
Jordin atended the “Sparkle” premiere last night. “It was crazy. It wasn’t necessarily somber because everybody was so excited to finally be here and for everybody to be seeing it. I was sitting there; it was actually my fifth time seeing it, still bawled like a little baby, but I was sitting there and her family was sitting right behind me. Bobbi Kristina was behind me, Pat Houston. And, I just got chills all over, I was sitting there and I was like, ‘I’m not gonna do it this time, I’m gonna be fine,’ and then you know, she opens her mouth to sing and you’re just completely overtaken by it”
“I start tearing up and then I hear Bobbi behind me, she’s crying. Then I just bawled because it’s got to be so hard for her to watch it. It’s amazing to see her up on that screen, but it’s sad too because she’s not here. But it was so fun. It’s the end of a chapter, but a new beginning at the same time.”
On Life Since American Idol:
“Literally, I was thinking about that last night. I got out of my dress and my hair, and my makeup is all smudged, and I’m sitting there and I was just like, ‘Five years ago before I even auditioned for ‘Idol,’ like I never imagined…you dream of doing things, like I wanted to act and I wanted to sing on big stages and I got to do all that and now I’m going in to the other part of my dream that I dreamt about which is acting. I don’t know, I still have to pinch myself, it just gets crazy.”
What’s Next For Jordin?
Jordin told us she is working on a film with Jennifer Hudson. “It’s crazy though, because we don’t have any scenes together, but I hope, I go back in next week, to finish some of my scenes, so I hope that she’s there so that I can just say hello and talk to her.”
